A white Toyota 212 bearing the same description as the one used by bandits to fatally shoot Deon Stoll, a gold miner and injure his security guard during an attempted robbery on Monday, was found abandoned in Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The car, which was found around 20:00 hrs last night, bears registration number HC 7162. It was found parked at the side of a street in the village by residents who informed the police. A hole in the back windscreen is believed to have been made by a bullet.
Guyana Standard has been informed that a resident who lives near to where the discovery was made said that two men were seen exiting the car and walking towards the public road where it is suspected they joined a mini bus.
The car is currently being processed. Monday morning, gold miner Deon Stoll was shot and killed during an attempted robbery by two gunmen outside of the El Dorado Trading in Newtown, Kitty.
Surveillance footage shows the businessmen’s car being driven along Da Silva Street—heading towards the gold dealership with the gunmen’s car—a white Toyota 212, tailing closely behind.
Just as Stoll’s driver drove onto a parking spot in front of the company, the suspects stopped, and two gunmen jumped out of their vehicle and ran to both doors. The gunmen immediately opened fire.
Stoll was seen on the footage returning fire on while his driver tried to wrestle one of the men. One of the gunmen might have been shot since he fell on the roadway when Stoll fired shots at him.
The businessman later succumbed to his injuries. No arrest has been made as yet.
