A teenager was today slapped with four armed robbery charges.

Eighteen-year-old Leon Patterson, who had escaped from the juvenile facility in 2016, appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts.

The first charge stated that on October 15 at South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, while being in the company of others and armed with a gun, Patterson robbed Richard Cozier of one motorcycle valued $435,000.

The second charge stated that on October 14, at Freeman Street, East La Penitence, while being in the company of others and armed with a gun, he robbed Tyrese George of a phone valued 87,000.

It was further alleged that on October 11 at Meadow Brook, Georgetown, while being in the company of others and armed with a gun, he robbed Jerome Mitchell of a motorcycle valued $290,000.

The last charge stated that on October 14 at Freeman Street, Georgetown, while being on the company of others and armed with a gun, Patterson robbed Timothy Eswick of a motorcycle valued $175,000 and a phone valued $60,000.

Patterson denied all the allegations after they were read to him.

He was represented by Attorney-at-law Stanley Moore who asked that his client be released on reasonable bail.

However, Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris strongly objected to bail being granted to the defendant citing the serious nature of the offences and the penalty the charges attract.

He also highlighted the fact that the defendant was positively identified by the victims as the person who robbed them.

The Prosecutor added that if bail is granted to the defendant it is a likelihood that he will commit more offences.

The Magistrate, after listening to the prosecutor, remanded the teen to prison until November 25.

In 2016, Patterson escaped from the Juvenile Holding Centre at Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara, after speaking to the staffer, the youth exited through the back door of the office. He reportedly then slipped through the main gate.

He was also charged with robbery and illegal gun and ammunition possession but those matters were dismissed against him.
