A 21-year-old man, who allegedly robbed a woman of her valuables, was today remanded to prison. Denroy Gladstone appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts.
It is alleged that on October 31, 2019, at Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown, while being in the company of another, and armed with a gun, Gladstone robbed Marcelo Sinclair of a bag valued $4,000, $30,000 cash and other articles valuing 5,000.
An unrepresented Gladstone denied the charge after it was read to him.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Christopher Morris stated that on the day in question, Sinclair was walking along Pike Street when he was approached by the defendant and others.
The court heard the defendant’s friends held on to the victim while he took away his bag containing the articles.
The matter was reported to the police and Gladstone was later arrested and placed before the courts.
Prosecutor Morris objected to bail being granted to the defendant on the grounds that he was positively identified by the victim as the person who robbed him.
He also highlighted the fact that the entire incident was captured on CCTV footage.
Magistrate Daly, after listening to the facts, remanded Gladstone to prison until December 13.
