The Office of the First Lady, today, opened its second and final Early Childhood Development Workshop for 2019, at the Regency Suites.
Forty-three participants, including men drawn from the Buxton Day-care Centre, the Office of the First Lady, the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG), the Lusignan Learning Centre, the St John’s Bosco Boys Orphanage and Women Across Differences (WAD), are expected to benefit.
The three-week workshop, which is spearheaded by First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Protection’s Board of Industrial Training (BIT), will see the participants exposed to theoretical and practical training. They will also benefit from a one-week training session in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) at the Guyana Red Cross Society.
Facilitator, Paulette Bollers, in her overview, said that the workshop will equip the participants with the basic skills of Early Childhood Development and teach them about the important role they play in the foundation of a child’s growth and development.
“The early moments of a child’s life matter. Your impact can last a lifetime. Some of these moments may seem small to you, but these moments, big or small, can alter the development of a child’s brain. It is a critical period of a child’s life … People who are working in the Early Childhood Development sectors must be knowledgeable because we cannot make mistakes because if we do, we can damage a child’s future,” she said.
Confidential Secretary to the First Lady, Lieutenant Colonel, Yvonne Smith encouraged participants to complete the workshop, as it would enable them to graduate with an accredited certificate, which they can use to gain employment.
The workshop’s other facilitators, Shavon Chester and Ninian Blair also attended the opening.
