Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo is calling out the local office of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for kowtowing to a government that he claims, is unconstitutionally occupying office since September of this year.

The former President made his concerns known during a press conference last week where he made reference to the IDB’s role in funding two consultants – IOS Partners Inc. and Global Partners Consulting LLC – for the  review and the redesign of the trade and investment framework for the Guyana Office for Investment (Go-Invest), and the design of export and investment strategies.

“I see now they’re hiring a consultant, and this with the complicity  of the local office of the IDB. That office has seems to have been moved into Congress Place – the local office of the Inter-American-Development Bank,” Jagdeo said.

He stated that the galloping to formulate these strategies months before the hosting of General and Regional Elections points to “incompetence” on the part of the David Granger-led administration.

“Now you’re five years into government. You campaigned the last elections on the basis that you have an export strategy [and] a trade and investment strategy, and now, just before elections, you’re now hiring a consultant to design this strategy for you. This is the incompetence.”

Asked if he raised his party’s concern with the IDB, Jagdeo said that he spoke to the IDB President, Luis Alberto Moreno recently, who said that he was not briefed by the local IDB office of particular developments in Guyana.
