Police have arrested a 24-year-old man hours after the bodies of two vagrants were found with stab wounds on different areas in Regent Street, Georgetown.

The suspect has given his name as Devon Johnson of Lot 163 Cummings Street, Bourda. He is said to be of unsound mind.

Guyana Standard has been informed that Johnson has a wound on his hand but he cannot explain how he got the injury. It is suspected however that he might have injured himself when he stabbed the vagrant(s).

In the first instance, the police said that the body of a 35-year-old vagrant, who goes by the name “Sponge Bobb,” was discovered with stab wounds Monday morning at the corners of Regent and Light Streets, Bourda.

The body was clad in black short pants and bore an incised wound to the left side neck. The suspect was recorded on a surveillance camera inflicting the wound on “Sponge Bobb.”

In the second case, the body of another homeless man, “Samaroo” was discovered in a pool of blood in front of Regent Household Plus on Regent Street, Georgetown with several stab wounds on Monday afternoon.

Eyewitnesses told the police that they saw a man, fitting Johnson’s description, inflicting the wound and then running away from the scene.

Johnson will be questioned for both murders.
