A 26-year-old mechanic, who allegedly stabbed a man during a fight, was today charged and remanded to prison for the offence.
Feraz Narine, of 246 Section ‘Comes Diamond, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The unrepresented man was not required to plead to the charge which stated that on November 21, 2019, at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, he wounded Teon Archer with intent to murder him.
Facts presented by police prosecutor Neville Jeffers stated that on the day in the question, Narine and the victim had a physical confrontation during which Narine pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim to his lower left abdomen.
The injured man was then rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was treated before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he remains in a critical condition.
The prosecutor objected to bail being granted to the defendant on the grounds of the prevalence of the offence and the penalty the charge attracts.
He also highlighted the fact that the victim is still hospitalized in a critical condition.
On those grounds, the Magistrate remanded Narine to prison until December 10.
