A prison officer attached to the Lusignan, East Coast Demerara (ECD) prison was this morning found with a quantity of suspected marijuana in his underwear.
Prison Director (ag) Gladwin Samuels said that around 06:45 hrs this morning, the officer was searched when he reported for duty. It was there that he was found with the marijuana hidden in his underwear.
When questioned, the officer who has only been employed with the prison for eight months, said he felt pressured by an inmate’s repeated request for him to smuggle the illicit drug and finally give in.
This is the second officer to be caught with illegal items within three days.
