A multi-stakeholder working group will be established by the Private Sector Commission (PSC)to broaden the discussion on local content legislation. The group will include representatives from civil society, labour unions, and political parties.
This decision, the PSC said, comes in light of widespread concerns raised by Guyana’s private sector on the issue of local content, and recent calls for legislative protection made by the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA).
The decision for this course of action was taken when the Council of the Private Sector Commission, which represents over 23 private sector organisations, convened its Trade and Investment Sub-Committee to discuss the concerns and to give effect to the call for local content legislation.
