A Primary school student was on Wednesday afternoon allegedly sodomized by two of his male schoolmates at an East Coast Demerara (ECD) school.
The incident happened in the school’s toilet.
The victim is said to be six years old while the perpetrators are age nine and 10.
A police source said that a medical examination showed that the child was sexually assaulted.
Guyana Standard has been informed that on Wednesday afternoon, the six-year-old went to use the school’s washroom when his two older schoolmates rushed in behind him and locked the door.
The two young perpetrators allegedly took turns raping the young boy. They covered his mouth to prevent him from screaming.
After sexually assaulting the boy, the suspects left. The victim then went to his teacher and complained.
The police source said that when the matter was reported, the two children who are accused of the crime were picked up by the police and questioned.
A rank told Guyana Standard that investigators still have to take more statements before they seek advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The Ministry of Education released a statement saying that the incident is being investigated and a number of stakeholders are involved in the matter.
The Ministry of Education also appealed “to individuals to desist from sensationalizing issues related to minors and to engage in responsible reporting.”
