“ I get nuff children so I been selling it to get money fuh mek a living. Please be lenient with me,” were the words of man who pleaded guilty to trafficking one pound of marijuana.
Abel Simon pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on December 4,2019, at 70km, Cuyuni River, Essequibo Magisterial District, he had in his possession 488 grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
The unrepresented man appeared before Principal Magistrate, Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor, Seon Blackman, stated that on the day in question, police acting on information intercepted a car in which Simon was a passenger.
A search was then carried out on his possession and in a black bag, a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be narcotics were found. He was then told of the offence to which he admitted, hence the present charge.
The Magistrate, after listening to the facts, sentenced Simon to two years and fined him $292,800, citing that he was honest with the court and pleaded guilty on his first appearance.
