The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said it has launched an investigation after two of its ranks were seen in a viral video assaulting a man, who was resisting arrest at the Meadow Bank Wharf yesterday morning.
The man has since been identified as 32-year-old Quincy Little. He cleans fish at the wharf.
The two policemen—one in uniform and another in civilian clothing, were seen punching Little with a handcuff and aiming a gun at him as several persons can be heard in the video accusing them of brutality.
The reason for Little’s arrest is unclear at this point. The video showed the policemen dragging the man by his pants and attempting to place him in the van but he managed to jump out of the vehicle.
At one point, Little’s pants came off. Blood was oozing from his face. A rank was seen punching Little to the face and other parts of his body with the handcuff.
The same rank with the handcuff then went to the vehicle, collected a gun and aimed it at Little. Subsequently, Little was arrested and taken away by the lawmen.
The Police Office of Professional responsibility has since taken over the case.
