The skeletal remains of what is suspected to be a male was found buried in a shallow grave yesterday in the Marudi mining area, Region Nine.
This morning, Divisional Commander, Superintendent Keithon King, confirmed the findings. He said that ranks are at Lethem currently arranging transportation to go into the area and retrieved the remains.
“It was difficult for ranks to get into the area where the remains were found yesterday because it’s a good distance so they are making arrangements now to get there,” King said.
He added that once the skeletal remains are returned to Lethem, the pathologist will have to assemble all the parts in a bid to determine the cause of death. Eventually, DNA will have to be done to determine the identity of the deceased.
Guyana Standard has been informed that the remains were found by a group of miners who were excavating the area yesterday. The police were subsequently informed.
