Two years after popular soca artiste, Rodney ‘Benjai’ Le Blanc was assaulted outside Palm Court Nightclub, his alleged attacker, Maverick De Abreu is expected to call a final witness in his defence come January 21, 2020.
Twenty-seven-year-old Maverick De Abreu of Lot 66 Broad and Alexander Streets, Charlestown, is on trial before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He has denied the charge which stated that on April 16, 2017, at Palm Court, Main Street, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Le Blanc. De Abreu is being represented by Attorney-at-law Mark Waldron. He is out on $50,000 bail. Meanwhile, Le Blanc is being represented by attorney, Eusi Anderson.
According to information, on the day in question, Le Blanc had just finished performing at the Pulse Entertainment’s Soca titled “Easter Phenomenon” at the Palm Court Night Club.
The court heard that after his performance around 03:00 hrs, Benjai was standing outside the nightclub awaiting transportation when motor car PLL 2456, which he was standing behind reversed close to him. As a result, Benjai tapped on the vehicle to alert the driver.
It was reported that after the driver was alerted, De Abreu exited the vehicle and pointed a gun to Le Blanc’s face and threatened to kill him.
He allegedly told the Soca artiste, “You f#*ing stupid. You think this is f#ing Trinidad. I would f#**ing kill you.”
De Abreu then allegedly armed himself with a glass bottle and slashed Le Blanc across his face.
The injured man was rushed to the Woodlands Hospital where he underwent an emergency surgery and received over 15 stitches to his face.
De Abreu was also previously charged for discharging a firearm at his pregnant girlfriend and her sister.
He was however freed of the two charges after the women refused to offer evidence against him.
