Keon Lawson of Wismar, Linden will be spending the festive season in jail as he was found guilty of raping an underage girl this afternoon by a jury. Lawson, 25, was remanded to prison until Monday, January 6, 2020, when he returns to court for sentencing.
State Prosecutors Teriq Mohamed and Nafeeza Baig presented two indictments against Lawson for sexual activity with a child under 16 years. The second charge alleged that on October 6, 2017 in the county of Demerara, he again engaged in sexual activity with the same girl, this time when she turned nine.
The jury deliberated for two hours, and found Lawson guilty on both charges. At the announcement of the verdict, Lawson said he was sorry. His lawyer, George Thomas requested for a probation report to be prepared on his client before sentence is passed.

He held on to the young girl, covered her mouth with his hands and pulled down her underwear after which he raped her. On October 6, 2017, the girl was sent to Lawson’ s home by her mother to collect an item.
She was nine.
When the girl arrived at the home, Lawson was there alone. He blocked the doorway and prevented the her from leaving the house. He proceeded to throw her onto a chair and raped her. The child reported this specific incident to her class teacher, who summoned her parents.
