A 62-year-old security guard, was today remanded to prison on a trafficking of narcotics charge.
Marlon Norton, of Seaforth Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on December 16, 2019 at Willam Street, Kitty, Georgetown, he had in his possession 102 grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
According to information, on the day in question, ranks on patrol duty saw the defendant throwing a plastic bag in some bushes.
The bag was then retrieved and a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be narcotics were found inside.
The defendant was then told of the offence to which he denied. Hence, the present charge.
The Prosecutor objected to bail being granted to Norton on the prevalence of the offence and the penalty the charge attracts. The Magistrate upheld the prosecutor’s objections and remanded Norton to prison until January 8, 2020.
