An Albouystown resident, who was caught hiding in a toilet at Gafoor’s Houston Complex, was today fined $25,000 for intention to commit a felony.

Forty-five-year-old Sunil Narine, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

He pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on December 13, 2019 at Houston, East Bank Demerara, he attempted to commit a felony by breaking and entering the building of Gafoors.

Narine, in his explanation to the court stated, “ one my foot break so is me and a next man break into the place.

The next man get away from the police so the police burn me with cigarettes and kicked me all over my body.”

Facts presented by Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that on the day in question, at around 23:00 hrs the security guard at the building heard a noise coming from inside the building.

The court heard that upon checking, the guard observed the defendant hiding in a toilet. He was then arrested and handed over to the Ruimveldt Police Station and later charged for the offence.

Failure to pay the fined of $25,000 will see Narine spending four weeks behind bars.
