According to Transparency International’s report that was released this morning, Guyana has moved up eight places on the 2019 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI). For 2019, Guyana ranked 85 out of 180 countries while in 2018 it placed 93. In previous years, Guyana placed 91 for 2017, 108 for 2016 and 119 for 2015. It therefore means that 2019 is Guyana’s most improved year under the Granger administration. Further to this, Transparency International said that Guyana has shown the most significant improvement from 2014 to 2019. Joining it in this regard are Greece and Estonia.
In terms of scoring, Guyana would have received a total of 40 out of 100. (0-9 means highly corrupt while 90 -100 means very clean. Countries which tied with Guyana for the same ranking and score for 2019 are Burkina Faso, Indonesia, Kuwait, Lesotho, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Additionally, countries such as Denmark, New Zealand, Finland, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Netherlands, Germany, and Luxembourg were deemed as the least corrupt in the world.
