A taxi driver accused of engaging in sexual penetration with a 12-year-old was this morning arraigned before a City Magistrate.
Forty-nine-year old Orlando Fraser of Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He was not required to plea to the charge which stated that on June 10, 2019 at Pike Street, Georgetown, he engaged in sexual penetration with a child under the age of 16.
The matter was heard in-camera and members of the public and the media were asked to exit the courtroom.
According to information, the defendant and the child are known to each other since he would normally pick the girl up from school and drop her home.
It was reported that on the day in question, the defendant picked up the girl from school and took her to his house where he then raped her.
The child then told her teacher what had happened and the teacher called in the Child Protection Agency. The matter was then reported and an investigation was carried out, hence he was arrested and charge for the offence.
The Magistrate, after listening to the Prosecution’s facts, released the taxi driver on $270,000 bail.
He was instructed to make his next court appearance on February 3.
