A 23-year-old man who is accused of punching a man several times to his face before robbing him of $5000, was moments ago charged for the offence.
Donnel Todd appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The unrepresented man denied the charge which stated that on January 30, 2020 at 111 Miles, Mahdia, Essequibo Magisterial District, he robbed Michael Peters of $5000.
Todd, in his explanation to the court stated the two were involved in a fight and he did not take any money from the victim.
However, facts presented by Police Prosecutor Delon Sullivan stated that on the day in question, the men had a misunderstanding and Todd dealt the victim several cuffs about his body and took away his money.
The matter was then reported and Todd was later arrested.
The court heard a search was carried out on his possession and the $5000 was found.
The prosecutor objected to bail being granted to the defendant on the grounds of the prevalence of the offence and the penalty the charge attracts.
The Magistrate listened to both sides and then released Todd on $50,000 bail.
The father of two was instructed to make his next court appearance on February 3.
