A Cane Grove, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD) man and his wife allegedly murdered their neighbour around 21:00hrs yesterday after the deceased’s spouse rejected a call from the female suspect.
The deceased has been identified as 48-year-old Gopaul Seeram called “Eyelash’ and ‘Kumar’ of Log Dam, Cane Grove, Mahaica. The cause of death has been given has multiple injuries due to blunt trauma.
The suspects have been identified as a 21-year-old man and his 43-year-old partner. Both are in police custody.
According to information received, the female suspect resides at another location in Mahaica—Helena. Whenever she visits her younger husband, she would call the deceased’s wife to enquire if her spouse was at home before going to Cane Grove.
Yesterday, however, the woman reportedly called the deceased’s wife to enquire whether her partner was at home but the call was terminated by the former. This allegedly angered the woman, who immediately went to Cane Grove to confront her neighbour.
Guyana Standard has been informed that the female suspect went to the deceased’s home to confront her and this reportedly resulted in a fight which led to the intervention of both husbands.
The police said that both suspects dealt the deceased several lashes to the head. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he later succumbed.
The suspects are likely to be charged tomorrow.
