“ With all due respect I have three kids to maintain. I get financial difficulties because my baby need milk and pampers and the mother refused to breastfeed because she ain’t want her breast get long. Is a Spanish girl, yuh know how them stay,” were the words of a man who pleaded guilty to a break and enter and larceny charge.
Thirty-three-year-old Marlon Persaud, appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Persaud pleaded guilty with explanation to the charge which stated that on February 4,2020, at South Road, Lacytown, Georgetown, he broke and entered the business place of Eddy Boodall and stole one electrical fan valued $8,000 and one water dispenser valued $45,000.
Persaud, in his explanation to the court stated,” I frustrated because me baby ain’t get not even one pamper and she ain’t get no milk. The night I saw some friends drinking and I asked them fuh a lil raise to buy some stuff and they ain’t give me.”
He added,” I decided to leave them and I began walking going home. While walking I saw a man fetching some stuff from a building and I decided to help him fetch the fan.
When we reach up the road a man saw us and asked why we stole his stuff and the police came and arrested me alone cause the other man run way with the water dispenser.”
However, the investigating rank who was present in court told the Magistrate that Persaud is a security guard at Radar Security Service and on the day in question, he was at work performing duty when he left to assist his friend to break into an office at Delta Security Service.
The rank added that Persaud was seen on CCTV footage in his uniform removing the articles.
The Magistrate listened to both sides and stated,” Well something will definitely get long for your child’s mother.”
Persaud then responded,” She ain’t get time with me.
A man done call me and tell me how she get another man in my house.”
He then apologized for his actions and asked that the court be lenient with him.
He was then asked by the Magistrate how much time he should spend behind bars and he said six months.
The Magistrate however sentenced him to serve nine months.
