A husband and wife who allegedly dealt their neighbour several lashes about his body, were yesterday jointly charged with murder.
Twenty-nine-year-old Dhanraj ’Ganga’ Ramkishan, a labourer of Long Damn, Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara and his wife forty-three-year-old Deomattie ‘Shobma’ Salikra, of 10 Helena Number 1 ,Mahaica , East Coast Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Marissa Mittleholzer at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court.
They were not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that both of them on February 5, 2020 at Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara, murdered Gopal Seeram. They were both remanded to prison until February 28.
According to reports, on the day in question, at around 15:00 hrs, the couple confronted Seeram over a telephone call that his wife had earlier ended.
It was reported that the couple and Seeram were involved in a heated argument and it was then that the couple picked up two separate pieces of wood and dealt Seeram several lashes about his head and body and went away.
The injured man was then picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he later died while receiving treatment.
The matter was then reported and following investigation the couple were arrested and charged.
