Change Guyana, a political party being led by businessman Robert Badal, this morning released an abridged version of its manifesto ahead of the March 2 polls. According to Badal, one of the key elements of the manifesto is the bid for the removal or limiting of ministers discretion in various sectors. He is of the opinion that such an action will be a step closer to eradicating corruption.
The party’s Presidential Candidate, in referencing the recently completed Local Content Policy, said that Guyana needs stronger mechanisms to ensure a holistic involvement of the populace in the sector. He is of the belief that a policy will not deliver on that objective. In fact, he is arguing that policies are predicated on ministerial discretion which can lead to abuse of office.
He noted that should Change Guyana have any stake in the National Assembly after March 2, it will champion the need to cut down on ministerial involvement in policies and legislation.
Speaking on the issue of good governance, Badal said that his party will be advocating for better value for taxpayers’ monies, support for youth development, and solutions for crime and healthcare issues.
“It (manifesto) also talks about accountability, transparency and respect for the rule of law, and constitutional reform. These are the “ingredients” of the party’s manifesto to achieve a better live for all Guyanese,”he said.
