A security guard who allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl was this morning charged for the offence.
Twenty-six-year-old Esmund Adams of Wortmanville, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that between December 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018 at Princes and Adelaide Streets, Wortmanville, Georgetown, Adams engaged in sexual penetration with a child under the age of 16.
The unrepresented man was not required to plead to the indictable charge after it was read to him.
The matter was heard in-camera and members of media and the public were asked to exit the courtroom.
According to information, the teen and the man were involved in a sexual relationship after they met on Facebook.
It was reported that during the periods mentioned in the charge, the teen went to the defendant’s home where they had sex.
However, the child on arrival home, went and reported the matter to her parents, who then went and reported the matter to the police.
An investigation was then carried out. Hence, Adams was arrested and charged for the offence.
The Magistrate released Adams on $150,000 bail. He was instructed to make his next court appearance on February 25.
