Months after a man was released from prison after spending two years behind bars on an armed robbery charge, he was moments ago sentenced to two years for having in his possession an illegal firearm.
The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Annette Singh in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Royston Rowe, 31, of 141 Newtown Kitty, Georgetown, had pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on July, 16, 2019, at Campbellville Avenue, Georgetown, he had in his possession a .38 revolver, without being the holder of a firearm license.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Adduni Inniss stated that on July 16, 2019, police received a telephone call from the girlfriend of the defendant and they proceeded to Campbell Avenue, Georgetown, where they made contact with the woman.
The Prosecutor added that the woman informed the ranks that the defendant threatened to kill her with the gun and she handed over same to the officers.
The officers later arrested the defendant while he was returning home with two bottles of Guinness in his hands. He was then taken to the station and charged for the offence.
