A 32-year-old welder who was found with an illegal gun and matching rounds at the check in counter at Eugene Correia International Airport, Ogle, East Coast Demerara, was today charged for the offence.
Terrence Baker of 3715 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Rushel Liverpool in the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Courts where he was slapped with two charges. He was released on $300,000 bail.
The first charge stated that on February 17, 2020 at Trans Guyana check in counter at Eugene Correia International Airport, Ogle, he had in his possession one .32 pistol without being the holder of a firearm license.
It is alleged that on the same day and at the same location, he had in his possession two rounds of .32 ammunition, without being the holder of a firearm license.
Baker pleaded not guilty to both charges after they were read to him.
He was represented by Attorney-at-law Bernard DaSilva who asked that his client be released on reasonable bail. The lawyer told the court that his client is the sole breadwinner for his family.
However, the court prosecutor objected to bail being granted to the defendant on the grounds of the prevalence of the offence and the penalty the charge attracts.
The Magistrate, after listening to the facts released Baker on $300,000 bail. The matter was adjourned to March 13,2020.
