Approximately 3000 ranks from the Guyana Defense Force (GDF) will be casting their vote this morning at Camp Ayanganna, and President, David Granger who is one of the registered agents to oversee the process, turned up neatly attired in a green shirt which is one of his party colours.

When challenged to say if he is worried about perceptions that his attire can be seen as a form of exerting political influence on the voting soldiers, the former Brigadier said, “I am a duly accredited agent” while noting that it is his duty to ensure that polling goes smoothly. “That is all I am concerned about,” the APNU+AFC Presidential Candidate noted as he further stated that he has a lot of green shirts.

Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) representative for the People’s Progressive Party, Robeson Benn had raised concerns about this, saying that the President being attired in a green shirt can be perceived as campaigning which is forbidden on voting days.

During his brief interview with the media this morning at Camp Ayanganna, Benn told members of the media fraternity that he is not surprised that the President would see nothing wrong with his behaviour but he nonetheless maintains that it is wrong.

In light of the fact that he had just arrived to oversee the voting, he was unable to make an informed comment about the smoothness of the process.
