A man who was last year slapped with a series of armed robbery charges, was today remanded to prison for assaulting a police officer.

Twenty-three-year-old Antonio Maraj of Agricola, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Maraj pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on February 8,2020 at Leopold and Breda Streets, Werk-en-rust, Georgetown, he assaulted John Mohamed, a police sergeant with intent to prevent lawful apprehension.

Police Prosecutor, Sanj Singh objected to bail being granted to the defendant on the grounds that he provided conflicting addresses to the court.

The Magistrate remanded Maraj to prison until March 20,2020.

Last year, Maraj was charged with three counts of robbery underarms when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
