A 35-year-old motorcyclist lost his life yesterday when he reportedly collided with a vehicle that was travelling in the opposite direction on the Adventure Public Road, Essequibo.
The accident occurred around 20:50.
The deceased has been identified as Suresh Arjune of Lot 3 Adventure, Essequibo. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Suddie Public Hospital.
The 27-year-old driver that struck and killed Arjune was given a breathalyzer test and his blood alcohol level was found to be above the legal limit. He is in custody assisting with the investigation.
According to information received, the car was proceeding south along the eastern carriageway of the road when the driver alleged that while he was negotiating a left bend, the motorcyclist collided with the left side of his vehicle.
The driver claimed that the cyclist was speeding and his motorbike had no light.
As a result of the impact, the cyclist fell onto the road and sustained severe injuries to his head and other parts of the body. He was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital in an unconscious state and was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post mortem.
