Sanjeev Datadin, the lawyer for the pandit who has been accused of making sexual advances on a 13-year-old girl in an East Bank Essequibo (EBE) community, says that the police investigation was centered around improper test messages and nothing else.

It was earlier reported that the pandit was arrested last week and was released on $150,000 station bail after the child’s parents reported the sexual act towards their daughter by the pandit.

The child subsequently committed suicide on Saturday.

In a statement, the pandit’s lawyer said, “At no time was he (pandit) informed by the police that it was alleged that he had any physical contact whatsoever with the child. At all times the investigation centered around improper text messages and nothing else.”

Datadin said that when his client inquired about the text messages, he was informed that there were no messages in existence at the time. The pandit denied sending inappropriate texts the child.

The police are trying to determine whether the child’s death is linked to the pandit since it has been reported that the suspect had been threatening the child.
