A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) today called on the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to ensure that members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) who are stationed at Eteringbang are not disenfranchised.
It has been reported that on Friday, February 21, 2020, members of the GDF based at location Eteringbang did not get to vote. The party reminded that voting is the Constitutional right of every eligible Guyanese.
GECOM’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Yolanda Ward confirmed that indeed several joint service ranks could not cast their ballots. She said that in addition to the eight GDF ranks, some 35 police ranks also did not get a chance to vote.
Ward indicated that the pilot of the aircraft advised that he could not initiate a landing. Ward did not say why.
Ward said that GECOM will be transporting the affected ranks from that location to their respective polling stations to vote on March 2.
