A fire early this morning has destroyed the Brahma Kumaris Yoga Centre located on High Street, Kingston, Georgetown.
The fire is believed to have been started sometime around 04:34 hrs this morning. At this point, the origin is unknown.
Guyana Standard has been informed that at the time of the fire, there were two women inside the two-storey building. They managed to escape without injuries.
Fire Chief, Marlon Gentle when contacted said that the Guyana Fire Service received a call early this morning and his ranks immediately responded.
He explained that the upper flat of the building is heavily gutted while the bottom flat was damaged mostly by water and firefighting activities. Firemen were able to contain the fire to one building.
Presently, a team from the Guyana Fire Service is trying to determine the cause of the fire. The yoga centre is located just next door to a recently constructed building which houses the Observer Mission of the European Union and the area surrounding the fire has been cordoned off to facilitate Monday’s election.
