The Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority has issued a directive banning the use of unmanned areial vehicles – commonly refered to as drones – during the period of national elections. The ban comes into effect at midnight on March 1st and ends at midnight on March 3rd.
The ban, which covers the entire Guyana airspace, excludes members of the Disciplined Services acting in an official capacity and being assinged such duty during the period of operation.
The directive cites the enhancement of national security as its purpose and comes with penalties for persons who contravenes it.
The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority operates under the Civil Aviation Act 2018.
