The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is reporting an incident free General and Regional Elections thus far.
This revelation was made this morning at GECOM’S Media Centre at High and Hadfield Streets, Georgetown.
Providing the media with updates were GECOM’S Chairperson, Retired Justice Claudette Singh and Chief Elections Officer (CEO), Keith Lowenfield.
Justice Singh said that she is hoping activities throughout the day remain incident free just like on February 21, when members of the Joint Services voted and Nominations Day.
The Chairperson said that she exercised her franchise at Eccles, East Bank Demerara. From there, she said she and a team visited several polling stations across the Capital city.
The Chairperson reported that there was a bit of a hiccup at polling stations in Queenstown, Georgetown with regards to differently-abled persons, as most of them are located on the upper flat.
These persons were however given the necessary help, Justice Singh added.
With 9 political parties, over 600,000 voters and 2339 polling stations; polls opened at 06:00hrs this morning. They close at 18:00hrs.
