Former policeman and suspected gang member, Teon Allen, called ‘Spoil Child’ was today remanded to prison for the murder of his girlfriend, Colissa Hunte. Allen, a miner, of Wismar, Linden, appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Linden Magistrates’ Court where a murder charge was read to him; he was not required to enter a plea.
Guyana Standard was informed that the court was under tight security to facilitate his appearance. He returns to court on April 6. It was previously reported that Allen and his girlfriend came under heavy gunfire on Thursday, February 27, at a house at Wenbar Road Amelia’s Ward, Linden. Both of them were rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex where Hunte succumbed.
Following police investigations, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) advised that Allen be charged for the unlawful killing. There were multiple execution attempts on Allen’s life over the past years by a rival gang that is reportedly being headed by a Guyanese residing in Cayenne. The most recent attempt was in October last when three men opened fire on him at the La Penitence Market in Georgetown. Allen ended up escaping but not before shooting one of his attackers, Lashawn Lewis.
These men are said to be members of Allen’s rival gang; they were charged with attempting to murder Allen.
In September, last, Allen’s cousin, Eon Williams was executed in Linden and his girlfriend was wounded when gunmen opened fire on them at Lover’s Lane. Williams’s death was said to be a direct retaliation to when Allen reportedly opened fire on the home where the mother of the rival gang leader lived.
Last year September, Allen was charged in connection with discharging a loaded firearm at that woman, and another woman. Also, last December, Allen and another man were charged with discharging a loaded firearm and possession of an illegal gun and ammunition after attempting to evade a police roadblock at Rahaman’s Park, Georgetown.
Allen was released on bail in relation to all these charges.
