In the interest of transparency, the Returning Officer (RO)for Region # 4, Clairmont Mingo has resumed the tabulation exercise this morning using the statements of poll, the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) said.
The elections body said that RO has decided to restart the entire exercise and is hopeful that with the cooperation of those present, the exercise would be completed within the shortest possible time.
GECOM said that it is hopeful that with full compliance from all stakeholders, this aspect of the process could be concluded and ultimately a step closer towards the finalization of the electoral process.
Yesterday, the process was suspended by the GECOM Chairperson, Justice (Retired) Claudette Singh, as she awaited the Cheif Justice (CJ), Roxane George’s written judgement in the matter that was brought before her regarding Mingo’s previous declaration of the District Four results.
The declaration was deemed null and void due to the methodology that was used in the summation of the votes, and the refusal by the RO to have party agents and observers present to scrutinise the count.
