To reduce the spread of COVID-19, the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCCA) has decide – with the approval of the Cabinet Task Force – to close airports to all international flights, except for outgoing flights, cargo flights, medivac flights and technical stops.
This will come into effect from midnight of Wednesday, 18th March 2020.
“We hope that this will only last for two weeks; 14 days. We will continue to maintain out contact and communication with the Ministry of Health and the Task Force to ensure that this 14-day period is adequate. If so desired and requested, we will continue the process of the closure after those 14 days. The authority will still be doing inspections,” says Authority’s Director-General, Egbert Fields.*
