Taxi driver, Lindon Daniels was this morning committed to stand trial for the rape of a woman which occurred in February of last year.
Daniels, on his first court appearance was
slapped with three rape charges when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The first charge alleged that Daniels, on January 30, 2019, at Kuru-Kuru Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, engaged in sexual penetration of a woman over the age of 17.
The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) in this matter was conducted by Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs- Marcus.
This morning , when the matter was called, the Magistrate ruled that having considered the prosecution’s evidence, the court is of the opinion that a sufficient case had been made out against Daniels. Hence, he was committed to stand trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes.
Daniels remains out on $300,000 bail until the hearing and determination of the matter in the High Court.
He is also still facing two other rape charges in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that on February 18, 2019, at New Providence, East Bank Demerara, he engaged in sexual penetration of a woman over the age of 17.
Also, it was alleged that the defendant on February 13, 2019, at New Providence, East Bank Demerara, engaged in sexual penetration of a girl under the age of 16.
According to information, Daniels would pick up the victims in his vehicle and drive them to a lonely area to rape them.
It was reported that after committing the acts, he would take away the women’s cell phones and drive away, leaving them in the area.
