A 37-year-old teacher was axed to death late last night by her husband, who later attempted suicide at the airstrip located at Five Miles Bartica.
The deceased has been identified as Natoya Speede, a mother of two of Lot 36 Sixth Avenue Bartica. She died at the scene.
The murder weapon—an axe was found at the scene.
The suspect has been identified as Orin King. The police said that he was found not far from the woman’s corpse with self inflicted wound. He is presently receiving treatment at the Bartica Hospital.
Guyana Standard has been informed that the couple had been having domestic issues for sometime.
Last night, the suspect reportedly told the woman and her children that he was taking them to the airstrip to do a photo-shoot.
Based on reports received, the couple and their children got dressed and went to the location where the suspect had already hidden the axe.
Once at the location, the police said that suspect almost immediately located the weapon and attacked the deceased. Their two children fled for their lives and went to inform relatives and the police.
When lawmen visited the scene, the victim was already dead. The suspect on the other hand, was found bleeding profusely. He confessed to the murder.
