The relatives of 46-year-old Mark McLean who was allegedly shot and killed by a cop, last Saturday while at a shop in Stevedore, South Ruimveldt, are frustrated at the manner in which the Guyana Police Force ( GPF) is handling the matter.
Rachel McLean, in an interview with this publication made an impassioned plead for a thorough investigation into her brother’s killing and that the perpetrator faces the full brunt of the law.
The grieving woman expressed, “I am looking for justice for my brother since it seems like no one is looking into this situation.”
The woman said that last Saturday, her brother left her home and proceeded to his residence at South Ruimveldt after he was called by a group of friends who were at a house gambling.
Sometime after, Mark met his demise.
According to the woman, “I am looking for justice because we have video recording and voice recording and we will take the matter to court.”
The distressed woman is adamant that her beloved sibling was murdered.
Asked who might want to harm her brother, Rachel said, “He have a child mother he used to live with five years ago and they had their differences which caused them to separate.”
She claimed, “I learned that this incident stemmed from that because the person that shot my brother is related to his children mother and we need justice because he was murdered.”
The distressed woman admitted that her brother was not perfect as he has had a few brushes with the law and was before the courts for trafficking marijuana.
Guyana Standard was able to confirm that in March 2019, Mark was charged with cultivating as well as trafficking 200 grammes of marijuana.
The sister added, “On the day of his death he did nothing wrong and did not deserve to be killed in that manner.”
She is allegeding that her brother was shot by a rank attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
“He [the rank] shot my brother four times and we need justice,” she added.
When contacted for a comment on the matter, Police Public Relations Officer Jairam Ramlahkan said, “Up to this time, I don’t have any information.”
