Three masked gunmen this morning escaped with over $1.5 million in jewellery and cash from a Republic Park, East Bank Demerara (EBD)’s businessman after holding his two young children at gunpoint.
The men then made good their escape in a waiting car—a Toyota Premio HC 5451. The early morning invasion was recorded on surveillance camera and investigators are in receipt of the footage.
Commander Kurleigh Simon, when contacted, said that no arrest has been made as yet. Ranks are however on the hunt for the vehicle used in the crime.
According to information received, the businessman was about to leave his home this morning when he was held at gunpoint. The men forced him back into his home.
He was allegedly assaulted as the men demanded cash and jewellery. This news agency was informed that one of the gunmen held the businessman’s two daughters at gunpoint. They did not physically harm the children.
The men ransacked the house and made good their escape with the cash and jewellery.
The ordeal lasted no more than 15 minutes. Investigation is ongoing.
