A 40-year-old labourer succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) around 05:30 hrs this morning, hours after he had been attacked and stabbed by his sister-in-law and her husband.
The incident occurred at Lot 218 Hope West, Enmore, East Coast Demerara (ECD) where both victim and suspects reside.
The deceased has been identified as Albert Raghu called “Soldier.” He was stabbed to the left side abdomen and died while receiving treatment at the aforementioned hospital.
Raghu’s 29-year-old sister-in-law and her 40-year-old husband have been arrested and are assisting with the investigation.
Guyana Standard has been informed that the female suspect and the deceased’s wife are sisters. The two suspects are residing in the lower flat of the building while Raghu and his wife live in the upper flat.
Around 23:30 hrs last night, the suspects were in their flat imbibing and playing loud music which angered the deceased’s wife since she was unable to rest. She was at home alone. When her husband returned, she allegedly complained.
The police said that the victim armed himself with a cutlass and went downstairs and confronted the two suspects. The male suspect armed himself with two knives and went out into the yard where the victim was standing.
Reports are that an argument ensued and the female suspect allegedly choked her brother-in-law while her husband stabbed him. Raghu was taken to the hospital where he later died. The male suspect also sustained injury and had to be treated.
Both suspects were arrested and are assisting with the investigation.
