Party Agents attached to the incumbent regime, the A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC), has flagged 15 discrepancies as the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) commenced the recount of the ballots cast in the March 2 General and Regional Elections at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC) at Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown, today. Making this known this afternoon, was AFC Executive Member, David Patterson.

He reported that there were instances where the names of deceased persons appeared as those who voted. Other issues related to persons who would have migrated but were still listed as having voted. There are over 15 of these matters lodged in the Observation Book assigned to each station.

“Our agents came prepared to challenge several anomalies, which we have evidence to, and we took some time to workout with GECOM about the sequence to work in which we are going to challenge these anomalies and in particular, we were quite aware of persons that had deceased…And we were trying to verify that if they voted or not. Initially, GECOM disallowed it using their (deceased persons) names. They said if we used the serial number – you know that every packing list has a serial number that is in numerical order – that they would allow that. So, by this afternoon, we were able to get several of those on the records and slated in the observation book,” he said.

These observations are recorded and signed off by all party agents. It will then be examined by GECOM to determine the way forward.
