Ballots contained in 76 boxes were counted today as Day 14 of the recount of votes cast in the March General and Regional Elections came to an end this evening.
According to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM)’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Yolanda Ward, 18 boxes were completed for Region Three (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara); 14 for Region Four (Demerara/Mahaica); 18 for Region Five (Mahaica/Berbice); 18 for Region Six (East Berbice/Corentyne); and eight for Region Seven (Cuyuni/Mazaruni).
The statistics provided by Ward indicate that the boxes for Region Two have already been completed. Also, they indicate that Region Seven processing of ballots commenced today.
GECOM now has two additional workstations; taking the total number of units at the recount venue, the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC), to 12.
Today’s exercise brings the total number of boxes processed thus far to 718, or 30.6% of the 2,339 boxes that contained ballots cast in these elections. GECOM has 11 days to complete the remainder of the boxes.
