The National COVID-19 Task Force (NCTF) has approved a request for the return of the body of the late Trade Unionist, Mr. Komal Chand from Cuba.
Approval has also been granted for the return of his wife.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Karen Cummings met with the son of Mr. Chand and spoke to Mrs. Chand via telephone and conveyed sympathies on behalf of the government and shared with the family the position of the government.
Komal Chand, 75, died in early April of this year in Cuba, where he was receiving medical treatment.
He was the President of the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers’ Union (GAWU), and a long serving member of the local trade union fraternity.
