A Lethem businessman accused of fatally shooting a 17-year-old, who was allegedly on his property, was yesterday charged with the capital offense, murder.
Forty-two-year-old, Junior France of 210 Tabatinga, Lethem, Rupununi appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert via Skype at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
France was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on May 17, 2020, at Puruni Landing, Mazaruni River, Region Seven, he murdered Dane Jerrick of Lot 1 ‘A’, Ann’s Grove East Coast Demerara. He was remanded to prison.
According to information, on the day in question, the defendant claimed that he was alerted by his son about an intruder and went out to investigate.
Upon seeing Jerrick on his property, the businessman discharged several rounds at him while he tried to escape.
However, the ranks who carried out the investigation were told by an eyewitness, that the teenager was never on the defendant’s property.
Residents claimed that the businessman allegedly discharged several rounds at the teen while he was walking on a nearby road.
The matter was further investigated and the businessman was arrested and charged for murder.
