An accident between a mini bus and a Rav4 on the Rupert Craig Highway, East Coast Demerara (ECD) this morning has resulted in the death of a woman.

Another female is battling for her life at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) while several others sustained minor injuries.

According to information received, the driver of the mini bus made a sudden stop on the public road to pick up a passenger when the Rav4 ran into him.

The mini bus driver, based on reports received, did not pull into a corner but rather stopped on the road. A police source said that the driver of the Rav4 claimed that he mashed brakes but the vehicle did not stop in time since the mini bus made a sudden stop in front of him.

Both drivers are in custody.

As if the accident wasnt terrifying enough, while passengers were trying to call their relatives and search for their belongings in the confusion, two men entered the mini bus and robbed several of the injured persons.

One of the suspects has since been arrested.
