The recount of the March General and Regional Elections will conclude on June 13, the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has formally declared.
In a gazetted order seen by this publication, an addendum was made to the Recount Operationalisation Order to this effect.
The document, dated May 29th, 2020, has been signed by the Chairperson, Justice (Retired) Claudette Singh.
Today is Day 24 of the recount exercise. Initially, 25 days were allocated to the process. After a week of operations, the Commission met to review the process to determine if more time was needed. This extension is a result of those deliberations.
As at yesterday, the number of boxes processed was 1,469 or 62% of the 2,339 boxes that contained ballots cast in these elections.
