With East Berbice-Corentyne, Region 6 only recording one positive case and death related to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the residents have been adhering to the measures put in place by the Ministry of Public Health to contain the spread of the deadly virus.
Region six registered its first imported case and death back in March and since then, the Region has been taking all the necessary precautions to protect the residents. The Region has not recorded another positive case within the last two months.
While the measures are similar to those of the other regions across the country, the residents of Region are demonstrating and have been cooperating with health authorities and adhering to the guidelines.
Health officials are pleading with residents of Regions 1 and 7 and most importantly those who are from the mining communities to provide the necessary information for them to be able to contain the spread of this disease in communities.
The health ministry is also reminding residents of Regions 1,7,8 & 9 to desist from crossing the borders as COVID-19 continues to strike viciously and take lives in Brazil.
Persons experiencing signs and symptoms of this disease are asked to contact the hotline or the closest health facility.
As of yesterday, of the 14 tests done, there are no new cases. COVID-19 deaths remain at 12; the number of confirmed cases remains at 153. To date, the total number of persons tested is 1, 699 with the total number of negative cases being 1,546.
There are currently 70 who recovered, 71 active cases in institutional isolation, two patients in the COVID-19 ICU, and 25 persons in institutional quarantine. Globally, the statistics , according to WHO are as follows: the total number of cases is 6, 194, 533 with 376, 320 deaths. In the Region of the Americas, the total number of cases is 2,905,432 with 163, 428deaths.
